Journey For Stanley Cup Continues

The NHL playoffs continued, on the run up towards the Stanley Cup finals. There are 8 teams gunning for it. San Jose leads the Detroit Red Wings by two games, the Canadiens and Penguins are tied at one each, the Canucks lead the Blackhawks by one, and also the Boston Bruins also lead by one over the Philadelphia Flyers. The playoffs could be anyone’s game, though seems like some have a lot more work to do than others. Detroit Red Wings out for Stanley Cup number 14

The Detroit Red Wings aren’t off to a fantastic start, in their quest for a 14th Stanley Cup. San Jose was seeded number one, and Detroit was seeded fifth. It was the fifth Division Championship for the San Jose Sharks, however they haven’t won a conference championship yet. San Jose leads two games to none, winning both so far by 4 goals to 3. The next two games could be in Detroit, at the Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday, May 4, and Thursday, May 6. Both games start at 7:30 p.m., Eastern.

Canadiens and the Penguins

The Montreal Canadiens, who have the most Stanley Cup wins within the NHL, are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins at one all. The first game in Pittsburgh was a victory for the home team, beating the Canadiens 6 to 3 on April 30. A masterful performance by goalie Jaroslav Halak two days later helped secure a Montreal victory over the Penguins. Halak had a heck of a year already, as he and also the Slovak team took fourth at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Game 3 could be in Montreal.

Blackhawks and Canucks

Saturday May 1 was the first meeting of the Blackhawks and the Canucks. The Blackhawks were slammed by the Canucks, scoring only 1 goal in the third period to the Canucks’ 5 in the first two. Game 2 can be at 9 p.m. ET on Monday, May 3.

Flyers and Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers trail the Boston Bruins by one game to none. The first game was close, with Boston clinching the 5-4 victory in overtime on May 1. May 3 at 7p.m. ET could be the second game.
