An oil slick will likely soon be on the Gulf Coast of Florida, as an oil slick was spotted a few miles off the Florida coast. Pensacola, Fla, and especially Pensacola Beach could be hard hit. Tourism is likely to heavily suffer, as the white Pensacola beaches are a popular getaway destination.

White sand Pensacola Beach to turn to black

The sheen of an oil plume in the water a couple of miles off Pensacola, FL, was seen recently, as outlined by MSNBC. The Gulf Coast tourist trade in Florida is likely to suffer heavily, as summer is just around the corner. The spill is already costing a lot of cash until payday. The coasts of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and now Florida are already soaking up crude oil. The full cost to BP and to the taxpayers to clean up this mess won’t be known for some time.

No success with top kill or caps yet

There are various methods already tried to stop the leaking of oil, but none with great success. The last attempt was a top kill method, where mud was pumped into the leaking pipes to plug the leak. A method referred to as cut and cap is being tried, where robotic submersible units are used to cut sections off the pipe, and caps put on. There haven’t been many results, due to a setback involving a stuck blade, according to CNN. Efforts will continue, but there's no report on how long it will take to plug the leaking pipes.

On top of being involved one of the biggest environmental disasters in living memory, a BP criminal investigation has begun over the event. BP has also been in free fall on stock markets. The full extent of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill won't be known for a while.
