Now for something totally diverse using the Naruse Pedal

A genuine risk is posed by the default set up of a brake and gas pedal right next to each other. There just hasn’t been a good enough option, though a jet fighter style throttle would be Amazing. Jamming the gas when you should slam on the brakes is a way lots of people get hurt or killed. Masuyuki Naruse knew there was another way to do it.

Brakes and Gas no longer on separate pedals with the naruse pedal

Masuyuki Naruse got the idea after two incidents in which he inadvertently hit the accelerator pedal rather than the brakes in the 1980s. Naruse (the end is pronounced say), according to the New York Times, knew there was a solution. He thought that a single pedal would be better than the dual pedal system. So he started work on a pedal that could accelerate and brake without the potential mistake. The first prototype was finished in 1991.

Toyota wasn’t amazed

This pedal is for both gas and brakes, but just a little different. To brake, you push your foot down normally. The gas is a lever, which you move with your foot side to side. Turn your foot to give it the gun. Brake normally. About 10 years ago, Toyota was given one to test but didn’t release results. He isn’t really the first person, either. Currently, a similar prototype is being tested in Sweden, invented by one Sven Gustafsson.

People die because of this problem

There is a real danger to dual pedals. The Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis found that 6,700 accidents, 9,500 injuries and 37 deaths occurred in Japan due to hitting the wrong pedal. Individuals can forget which is which in emergencies. Richard A. Schmidt found that neuromuscular processes can be disrupted by emergency situations. Naruse Pedals could be legally installed on 130 automobiles in Japan, and the President of Toyota was lately invited by Naruse himself to try his pedal out, but Naruse was refused.
