In Times Square, the Pop Tart store, called Pop-Tarts World, opened up to huge fanfare. The shop depending on the pastry offers Pop-Tarts inspired cuisine and Pop-Tarts vending machines. The rent for Times Square is massive at $ 1,000 per square foot, but Kellogg’s hasn’t determined yet if the shop could be permanent.
What is inside the Pop-Tarts store
There is a little bit of every little thing offered up at the Pop-Tarts World. The cafe at Pop-Tarts World serves up Pop-Tarts sandwiches, Pop-Tarts-covered celery, even Pop-Tarts topped cinnamon rolls. A vending machine stocked with 23 Pop-Tarts flavors allows customers to create their own pack of Pop-Tarts, at $ 1 per pastry. Just about any topping or filling for a Pop-Tart could be yours in the Pop-Tarts bar.
Brand visibility through the Pop-Tarts store
The Pop-Tarts business determined to open up the Times Square store to show its “brand maturity”. Sales lately have been flat for this breakfast bar pastry. Owned by Kellogg, the Pop-Tarts brand sold about $ 481 million worth of product within the United States in 2009.
Pop-Tarts out of your own oven
You don’t have to be in the vicinity of Times Square to get customized Pop-Tarts. Pop-Tarts at home are less costly and healthier than the repurchased ones. Homemade Pop-Tarts can be made without the high fructose corn syrup and for less than 20 cents worth of ingredients per pastry. Combine 2 cups flour with 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup butter, 1 egg and 2 tablespoons milk. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut rectangles out. On half of the rectangles, spread anything from chocolate to jam. Top with the other half of the rectangles and press down with a fork. Refrigerate the dough while you pre-heat the oven to 350, and then bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
