The pending furlough of CA employees has been approved by the state judge. Schwarzenegger was sued to prevent it unsuccessfully. The California budget crisis has been ongoing for several years. Governor Schwarzenegger has had little help in trying to keep the state afloat. California has had a number of consecutive years of a budget shortfall. A furlough was one of the few possibilities open to Schwarzenegger, who was sued by state employees. The CA Supreme Court has upheld his power to enact a state furlough.
Court wants furlough structure to remain
A furlough was put in place by Governor Schwarzenegger for CA State employees. This was done to conserve cash for the state. The workers would work two fewer days per month, without pay. The furloughs went up to three days in 2009. This was after they had already been initiated in 2008. When the state furlough orders were renewed in 2009, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was sued by the Professional Engineers in California Government. They claimed it was illegal to make mandatory days off like that. That’s why the suit went through. The government won in the CA Supreme Judge. That is what Cable News Network reports. The state of CA is going to save $80 million each month by having the furloughs in place.
Money in CA is cut quite firm
The budget crisis within the state of CA has been going on for a while. It has been here for years in fact. As real estate values and employment plummeted, the state was left with a drastic budget deficit. A CA spending budget deficit has been an annual fixture. Nobody seems to agree with Governor Schwarzenegger. Everything he does is opposed by legislators. The deficit isn’t one thing that he likes or approves of. It is his only option to get the deficit to go down. Bloomberg explains the California budget deficit is, for this year, at $19.1 billion.
