Garfield offends on Veterans Day, Davis provides apology

On Veterans’ Day, Americans take time to remember those who have sacrificed for their country. Davis, the creative mind behind "Garfield," is among countless Americans who honor anyone who has served, even if the strip that ran on Nov. 11 unintentionally might appear to suggest otherwise. The "Garfield" Jim Davis’ syndication company made a decision to run on Veterans’ Day seemed to make fun of the existence of a Veterans’ Day celebration, although Davis states that was not his intention at all. Source for this article – Garfield creator Jim Davis apologizes for Veterans Day strip by Personal Money Store.

Death of veterans not something Jim Davis celebrates

The "Garfield" strip for which Jim Davis has issued an apology wouldn’t have needed any attention at all if it had run on a day other than Veterans’ Day. It had been simply a case of unintentionally bad timing, splashed across the pages of newspapers nationwide. In the offending cartoon, Garfield threatens a spider with a rolled-up newspaper. The spider then makes a statement. The path to immortality is being discussed her:

"If you squish me, I shall become famous! They will hold an annual day of remembrance in my honor, you fat slob."

It doesn't matter too much since the spider gets squished by Garfield anyway. In the last panel, a teacher spider presiding over a class of little spiders asks the question "Does anyone here know why we celebrate ‘National Stupid Day?’"

'The worst timing ever’ was what it had been

Jim Davis said this. This had been in reference to Veterans Day having that strip. You will find no literal connections to veterans day he pointed out in a statement he made. He also explained that over a year ago he made that strip.

”I don’t use a calendar that lists holidays and other notable days, so when this strip had been put within the queue, I had no idea it would run on Veterans Day,” Davis evidently explained.

It doesn't make sense that Veterans Day would mean nothing to Jim Davis considering his brother served in Vietnam and his son served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

‘Garfield’ is the most widely syndicated comic strip within the world

The "Guinness Book of World Records" talks about "Garfield" in 2002. It said that "Garfield" had been the "most widely syndicated comic strip in the world" then. Garfield has made it into books and films as a cat. He has also made it into merchandise.

Payday advance debt is miniscule in comparison to current customer financial debt

Even with a down credit sector, consumer debt levels make a cash advance financial debt trap seem like small potatoes. The payday lending industry as a whole lends less than $50 billion a year to its customers. There is 20 times that amount in outstanding debt on charge cards. Mainstream debt is encouraged and seen as a benefit, which makes it more of a trap than any payday advance loan ever could possibly be.

$11 trillion debt trap is not from pay day loan

Mortgage lenders were said to be the biggest cause of the debt trap as outlined by fortune. $10.6 trillion is debt from mortgages alone. For years and years you are meant to pay on a mortgage and credit card. There is over $822 billion in debt from credit cards. To come up with the $1.6 trillion in debt left you’ve to add student loans, automotive loans and installment loan. Even more astounding is that these figures are a reduction from previous years.

Pay day loans aren't even playing the exact same game

The credit card industry is far larger than the payday cash advance loan industry. In fact it is 20 times larger. The total amount of all pay day loan lent out in a year is still under $50 billion. Profit made by payday lenders is on average around 10% a year, which is much less than most lending industries. Given the information above, payroll loans aren’t the monster you tend to be lead to believe they’re.

Not as big as you would think

If you did your homework you would know that a payday loan is really different than a credit card and other forms of borrowing. Payday lenders lack the funds to do mass marketing like other credit industries. To learn more for yourself, simply visit the Payday Loan Facts and Statistics Report on Personal Money Store.

Very few beneficiaries from rate caps on loan providers

One of the most common regulations on the cash advance industry is to cap interest rates. The notion is to keep evil loan providers from charging swindled customers too much. Nevertheless, the typical of annual percentage does not seem to apply to a 2 week loan. Almost half of all cash loan lenders are small company owners, and their margins are being constrained.

The rate cap on cash advances has bad math

A cash now is usually capped with a 36 percent APR with the rate of interest caps on loans states are introducing. Numerous think this is perfectly acceptable to do. Sadly, a 36 percent cap has difficulties with it. APR can't be something that is calculated on a cash til payday or payday loans. A loan that only has two weeks at probably the most to mature shouldn't be considered under the Annualized Percentage Rates. Assume a loan lender assesses a fee of $20 per $100 loaned. The APR would be 240 percent if the $20 charge had been compounded once a month. If it is assumed to compound each two weeks, that $20 fee is 480 percent annual interest. Simple interest could be used at the ration of total amount paid vs. total amount borrowed. That means it is only 20 percent interest for the $100 to have a $20 fee.

Cui Bono on everyone's mind

"Who Benefits?" is what "cui bono" means in Latin. In the case of a secured loans rate cap, the beneficiary is banks and credit unions. With an APR standard, seems like paycheck loans aren't quite as attractive as credit cards. Payday advance looks much better though when considering the total amount a person pays back in simple interest vs. a credit card.

More terrible price ceilings

A business charging only a certain amount with a cap is what rate caps are as price ceilings. The margin for profit is reduced. This leaves consumers struggling to benefit from price competition which should be there. Owners of 50 percent of payday cash loan stores are small. They’re small business owners rather than giants. The economy sucks. It shouldn't be punishing these people. Want to know more? Take a look at the Pay day loan Facts and Statistics Record on Personal Money Store.

Transportation Security Administration official pats down troubled 3-year-old girl

Things changed at airports post 9/11, and the process of airport security necessarily became more rigid. It’s much slower, and some argue that it is much more invasive. According to Hot Air, when a Transportation Security Administration official at a Chattanooga, Tenn., airport went above and beyond the call of duty during the inspection of an upset child, the need for better training became painfully clear. As seen on video, the TSA screener pats down the 3-year-old aggressively, despite the child’s screams.

Transportation Security Administration pat down happens after outburst over stuffed animal

3-year old Many Simon had a pat down by TSA when she threw a fit after her stuffed animal was taken at scanner checkpoint. She is the daughter of Houston Television news reporter Steve Simon. The Transportation Security Administration said the child needed a "closer inspection," which meant a hand scanner and pat down were required after Mandy started weeping terrible. Whether Transportation Security Administration officials had severe reason to believe that Mandy Simon was an explosives mule for al-Qaeda is unclear; such things have occurred with children and the mentally impaired in Iraq. It’s mandateed by the United States Department of Homeland Security that these procedures occur. Even though it is something passengers and airport staff are against, it’s still required.

The event video is pretty bad though. Transportation Security Administration ought to have probably checked with the mom and dad about it first. Hot Air explains that it is possible that they could have explained it wasn't necessary to do the search.

United States looking to Israel for help

An airport security breach is something that hasn't happened in Israel in a while. It’s been decades since the last. Their methods are said to be both more comprehensive and more subtle than what TSA currently utilizes within the United States. It isn't necessary to have random sampling like this the Wall Street Journal suggests. In fact, the right training for Transportation Security Administration screeners would make a huge different. "Mugging random 3-year-olds," as Hot Air puts it, would be a thing of the uninformed past. Searching a young child doesn't have to happen though. Instead they might consider redirecting the child's fear or anger to determine what is going on. Proper training – and proper attitude from someone in what amounts to a highly specialized customer service position – could help restore Janet Napolitano and the TSA’s severely tarnished images.

Trying taken to concern with Girl Talk All Day

The second record by Pittsburgh DJ Girl Talk has been released. This album is named “All Day”. The record is built out of more than 373 samples and is meant to be listened to as one 71-minute piece. Girl Talk “All Day” is being released totally free and will likely spark further discussion of the legality of testing.

'All Day' Girl Talk downloaded totally free

DJ and performer Girl Talk, Gregg Gillis off the stage, has released his second album. The first record was released in 2008, and he has since been touring with more than 40 tour dates in a year. “All Day” is a record released as a free download on the Illegal Art website. "All Day" by Girl Talk is designed to be a long listening piece that is 71 minutes long although it’s split into 12 tracks. You will find 272 pieces of songs from different artists on the record. It has all the pieces put together.

Legitimacy of 'All Day' trying

The Girl Talk “All Day” record might pose a challenge for the legitimacy of trying. It’s allowed for music to be sampled with permission generally. Sometimes people won't get permission first. This means that the courts have had to deal with the "fair use" of music samples a lot. Recently there was a decision made with Bridgeport Music Inc. v. Dimension Films. This decision said that a "distinctive" three note riff is enough if permission was not requested to be considered a violation.

Use of Creative Commons permit on 'All Day' by Girl Talk

The Innovative Common permit is getting used more and more with the all-or-nothing copyright option being taken. With their permission, an artist can release their music for remixing and commercial use. This is because there’s a "Claim and release" system of copyrighting. The Girl Talk “All Day” record is launched under a Creative Commons non-commercial license. Anybody is going to be able to use the work. As long as it is used for commercial reasons then it is fine. Girl Talk will get a ton of exposure from this. The only real concern is whether he needs to be paid for all the work that was done.

Palin and Murkowski have a somewhat bitter history, as Palin has taken numerous swipes at Murkowski within the press. A President needs "leadership skills" that Palin does not have while Palin also "lacks intellectual curiosity" according to Murkowski. Columbia Broadcasting System reports that she said this in an interview with Katie Couric. She pointed out that she was not engaged in office at all while being governor for half a term. She then explained that Palin got out as fast as she could afterwards.

Final vote count up almost there

The last ballots are being reviewed and gathered which signifies the last Alaska vote count will be here shortly. While the lawsuit by Miller is still pending, the suit does not appear to be progressing easily and might turn out to be tossed. Should Murkowski win, it will be the 1st write-in candidate elected to office in over 50 years.

Pickup truck income outpace auto income

A larger gap grew in between auto sales and truck sales over October. The nature of the divide is a bit interesting though. It would make sense that in a lower economy, individuals would buy cheaper cars with good mileage. Pickup trucks, nonetheless, dramatically outsold vehicles.

More want trucks over cars

October auto sales made for a banner month. The month had gains posted for nearly all auto makers. Toyota on the other hand, because of lawsuits and recalls losing respect from the public, reports losses. Truck sales made up 54 percent of new auto sales according to USA Today. There are incentives offered by Ford and Dodge where Dodge has its "60-Day Handshake" promotion so anybody who buys a Dodge Ram pickup can return the truck in 60 days while Ford had its zero-percent financing on auto loans for new pickups. The figure includes pickups, but also autos that technically use a “truck” chassis. There were also included within the figure SUV's and minivans. Anything under the heading could go there.

Forget about the price of gas

The majority are aware of fuel consumption. This is especially true of modern car buyers. There has been a boost in small cars and hybrids. This is a fact. Full size pickups are still being sold. The rate is still the same. When the truck and SUV craze had been going, gas was less than $2 per gallon while now it is more than $2.80 a gallon which is more expensive. As a result of auto credit being damaged, many businesses weren't able to replace older work trucks and vans which is why the majority of the purchases were for work cars.

Keep on trucking

Selling trucks is great for automakers. They love to sell them. Ford makes the best selling pickup within the world, the F 150, set to debut with a turbo-charged V6 soon. Chevrolet, GMC and Dodge are not too far behind.

Gold futures hit record high, buyers advised to jump in

Gold futures explode to history maximum

Gold futures hit a new history as the global economic scene continues to boil with turmoil. According to Marketwatch, Gold for Dec delivery went up $ 7.20 per ounce to an all-time excessive of $ 1,405 early Monday on the Comex of the New York Mercantile Exchange. It soon peaked at a high of $ 1,407.20 per ounce.

Gold went down a little at first

Trading started Monday with a decrease of as much as $10 from Friday’s closing price on gold futures ($1,397.70 per ounce). Not coincidentally, the currency value of the dollar rose. There had been a historic lift though in gold, silver and copper prices due to the European debt in Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

The Federal Reserve’s bond buying excursion spun the market like a top

Numerous investors decided that selling paper currency and switching to precious metals had been a good idea considering the Federal Reserve decided to buy $600 billion worth of bonds within the next eight months. Yet currency values are not in complete free fall as yet, accounts Marketwatch. Against other paper currencies, the U.S. Dollar rose .5 percent. Because of underperformance from Greece, Ireland and Portugal bonds, the euro went down.

Re-instituting a gold standard

The ides of reinstating the gold standard is something that World Bank President Robert Zoellick thinks needs to be discussed. Hopefully, the G20 conference in Seoul, South Korea will be where this happens. A Financial times piece is where Zoellick talked about this. He said, "Employing gold as an international reference point of market expectations about inflation, deflation and future currency values" in making an economic yardstick available.

James Cordier, a portfolio manager at Optionsellers.com agrees. We'll see what a global gold standard does. It could "stabilize gold and turn what is nevertheless a thin market into a more orderly one." The value of currency would be more accurate also. It would be tied to something tangible which helps.

Silver and copper prices also shot up

Marketwatch reports that silver rates went up toward $27 an ounce. The Dec delivery figures are up too on copper. $3.96 per pound is now the price.

And it may be even more prevalent than previously thought.

Driving while drowsy has no good results

Drowsy Driving has new statistics most recently released. The study was done by the American Automobile Association, (aka AAA). 16.5% of fatal accidents involved a sleep deprived driver. A driver behind the wheel when tired had been also involved in 13.1 percent of accidents where a victim was hospitalized. in 7 percent of accidents involving a required towing there had been a drowsy driver. Drowsy drivers were 2/3 men and 1/3 women. Sleep deprived drivers in accidents were twice as likely to be 16 to 24 years old than drivers 40 to 59 years old. The primary ways the accidents occurred had been by drifting into other lanes or driving off the one entirely. This accounted for 57 percent of the accidents.

More American's tired

There has been more than one report claiming that Americans rest less than they used to. Most Americans sleep less than 7 hours despite being advised to rest at least 8. New Zealand conducted a study on drowsy driving in 2000. As outlined by CNN the study showed that a sleepy driver was a dangerous as a driver who is drunk. That said, drowsy driving results in fewer traffic fatalities, injuries and accidents than drunk driving does. Deaths caused by drowsy drivers is still insanely high.

Don't risk it

The risk of falling asleep behind the wheel, according to the AAA study, diminishes 50 percent if a passenger is present. Get your caffeine in you, and pull over to rest in case you are sleepy. Simply getting enough sleep before a long road trip can make a world of difference.

Wheel of Fortune 1 letter puzzle solution goes viral

Solving a "Wheel of Fortune" puzzle with 1 letter showing is a difficult task. Only blind luck or an inside job could make such an extremely hard prospect possible. But as 26-year-old contestant Caitlin Burke lately proved to Pat Sajak, Vanna White and also the rest of the world, if one has a "good feeling" about it, the impossible can become possible.

Amazing ‘Wheel of Fortune’ one letter answer

As Burke got the 27-letter puzzle answer, Pat Sajak had the most amazing look being seen. Burke beat the odds on the "Wheel of Fortune" game show better than any other contestant since 1975 when the show first begun. The solution to the "Wheel of Fortune" puzzle with one letter showing had been "I’ve got a good feeling about this.".

The letter "L" was the only one on the board then. Another contestant had already eliminated the letter "R" as a possible choice.

Access Hollywood explains that many think there could have been some kind of fix that happened for Caitlin Burke to get such an amazing answer. The idea is not supported though. No evidence was brought forth.

Educated guess vs. good luck

The "Wheel of Fortune" one letter answer was something Burke discussed on the Columbia Broadcasting System "Early Show" in an interview. She knew the first word had been a contraction that started with 1 letter, which had to be an "I.". Burke told the "Early Show" that she avoided getting caught up in how many letters were left uncovered. Through "years of practice and watching," Burke was able for making a guess that was half educated, 50 percent good luck. Her success gained her a Caribbean vacation, valued at around $6,500. In money and prizes, about $54,618 had been won by her.

Why did Burke quit?

That’s a question numerous individuals in the media are asking, and also the answer according to some sources is that Caitlin Burke was playing it safe. Clearly she knows how to work with a puzzle, however she’d already hit "Bankrupt" with a spin earlier in the episode. She decided guessing after getting the "L" had been probably a good idea. Exactly why risk another spin?

Salmonella implicated in egg recall

Chronic violator has a hand in latest egg recall

For the second time this year, an egg recall has become requested. An Ohio egg farm is implicated in this recall. Cal-Maine foods is the distributor for these eggs. Ohio Fresh Eggs supplies these eggs to the distributor. The two farms implicated within the egg recall earlier this year share something in frequent with Ohio Fresh Egg. This common investor has become called a “habitual violator” by the FDA. Resource for this article – Egg recall redo – 288,000 eggs recalled from habitual violator by Personal Money Store.

Recalling 288,000 eggs in egg recall

Eight states within the United States of America could be impacted by the Cal-Maine foods egg recall, which is the largest egg distributer in the states. The states consist of Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, California, Iowa, Missouri and Texas. Springfield, Sun Valley, James Farm and Sunny Meadow are all affected brands of eggs. A full list of UPC codes included within the egg recall could be found here. The egg recall has not had any illnesses linked to it.

Egg recall connected to “habitual violator”

There have been difficulties within the past for this farm. This is the farm that gives Cal-Maine its eggs. In Dec of 2006, Ohio Fresh Eggs was shut down as the operators did not reveal that Austin “Jack” DeCoster had invested $126 million within the farm. 1,600 people got sick in the egg recall earlier this year from Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg which both had DeCoster involved.

Recalling eggs due to salmonella

Most eggs do not have salmonella bacteria in them. About 1 in each and every 20,000 chicken eggs contains a very small amount of salmonella — about five microorganisms per egg. An egg with 100 microorganisms will make somebody sick. That is the expected amount. Avoiding salmonella is not hard. It’s actually easy to do. Any bacteria can be cooked if the egg is cooked to a temperature of 160 degrees. Salmonella is more likely to occur in overcrowded henhouses that are dirty which makes buying eggs from somebody you know that treats their hens well is helpful too.

Olbermann back on MSNBC, demands apology from network

Keith Olbermann will return to the air Tues on MSNBC, despite the network’s umbrage over his campaign contributions and just how such contributions allegedly ran afoul of NBC’s media ethics policy. "Indefinite suspension" without pay has become something of a joke, as Olbermann has regained his Television spot and gained the upper hand of power against his network. Olbermann did not bow down to his network masters, according to Mediaite. In fact, it is now quite the reverse. Now Keith Olbermann demands an apology from MSNBC for being embarrassed quite publicly for what he considered to be less than objectionable behavior. Resource for this article – Keith Olbermann back on MSNBC, demands apology from network by Personal Money Store.

MSNBC no more has Keith Olbermann

Due to the political contributions scandal, Keith Olbermann had been suspended by MSNBC network accounts Mediaite. Olbermann garners significant ratings for the network, although he is reportedly behind in the 25- to 54-year-old demographic that Rachel Maddow dominates. Olbermann used to be someone that individuals wanted to view. Mediaite says that all of that is in the past now.

All of his crazy demands

Yet that hasn’t prevented Olbermann from taking good offense at his recent treatment by MSNBC. Popeater writes that it had been MSNBC that submitted to Olbermann’s demands, and not the other way around.

"Keith sees himself as the star of MSNBC, the person who put them on the map and discovered Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell," said a network insider. "To be treated like this… he considers disgusting."

Keith Olbermann says that MSNBC needs to change its rules so they’re the exact same as the way FOX News does anything when also getting his pay reinstated. Fox News anchors are able to be a part of politics. Contributions are perfectly acceptable.

Journalist guidelines do not apply Meghan McCain says

It doesn't matter if it’s MSNBC or FOX News, Meghan McCain said in her The Daily Beast column where she suggests it was a bad idea to get rid of such talent. "Keith Olbermann isn’t a journalist," she writes. She states he is an informative and opinionated entertainer as a commentator.

"The real issue at hand is that journalists have to determine if they consider themselves journalists or commentators," McCain explains. She says that Cable News Network could have ratings go down as it has taken the "middle path" on everything. What do individuals want? Entertainment.

Bush protects waterboarding decision in new memoir

In previous President George W. Bush’s new personal story "Decision Points," he defends waterboarding. Controversial from the start, waterboarding had been used to notorious effect in Abu Ghraib prison against suspected terrorist prisoners. In an interview with Matt Lauer, George Bush said once again that he approved the use of waterboarding because his legal time assured him that it did not run legally afoul of the Anti-Torture Act.

Waterboarding is preventative also

The nation changed after 9-11. Waterboarding begun to be something talked about. United States intelligence was sure one more attack would happen. A terrorist attack had been being prepared for. President Bush received info from the intelligence. This showed that a future attack was likely. Permission to waterboard had been requested, the president consulted with his attorneys and got the green light.

'Why is waterboarding legal?’ is the big question

Lauer took the first step in asking the large waterboarding question when he asked Bush why he thought it had been legal. This is what the previous president said:

"Because the lawyer said it had been legal. He said it did not fall within the Anti-Torture Act. I’m not a lawyer, but you gotta trust the judgment of people around you. And I do."

But the natural extension of that line of inquiry, writes NPR – the climactic question that America nevertheless wants answered – went unasked by Lauer. While waterboarding might are legal, had been it a "moral" choice? Waterboarding is something that many nations say is torture. Many wonder if President Bush has an issue with it now thinking about his "born-again" Christian religion he says to have.

Hard ‘Decision points’

Dealing with terrorism and national security needs swift, decisive decisions. Most individuals might never fully understand what it is like to have to make such decisions, yet such is part of the burden of being a world leader. Many wonder if it’s moral to do waterboarding, even if it’s legal. Slavery had been legal in America at one point also although it wasn't moral. Many wonder if it’s moral to have abortion legal too.

Numerous wonder the exact same things about waterboarding. Unfortunately, the CIA's destruction of Abu Ghraib interrogation readings has met the statute of limitations. There will never be a court case. This is because a prosecution for obstruction of Justice can't ever happen. There might never be prosecutions about waterboarding. Of course, a president can no longer order it and it’s now illegal with Obama in charge.

Mazda cooking up gas motor with better than hybrid mileage

Recently, Mazda Motors announced that the business is testing an engine that will get 70 miles per gallon. Ford Motors is working on a similar project with their 45 miles per gallon Focus. Neither engine is attached to a hybrid vehicle, but the engines do provide high efficiency within an internal combustion engine, though with improvements. The craft is sophisticated, however the principles behind it are pretty basic.

An engine form Mazda better than even hybrids

There has been buzz over a prototype engine Mazda is testing, as outlined by CNN. About 70 miles per gallon could be achieved with the prototype. Fuel consumption that low will certainly be attractive, so long as the car is reasonably priced. The motor will use two different technologies: direct fuel injection and variable valve timing. Direct injection is when fuel is injected directly to the piston chamber instead of via a fuel injector on top of the block, for more precise ignition. Normally, there would be mechanically set and unvarying vale operation when variable valve timing makes it so there is a more efficient rhythm within the automated computer. The technology is fairly cutting edge, but the idea is as basic at it gets.

Involving simple physics in it

The 45 mpg Focus is using a basic science. This is how the Mazda motor is made. It involves two principles, mechanical advantage and mechanical efficiency. The energy ratio needed to perform is what mechanical efficiency is. Mechanical advantage involves the force coming from a machine in energy. The unit of energy being produced is what it is. The fuel efficiency in an engine will be better the better the mechanical advantage, or the power extracted from a unit of fuel, is.

The real thing

If an engine can put gas in the right place at the right time, there could be more efficiency. This means more force can be created than traditional fuel injection creates. Other strategies, such as turbocharged smaller engines, boost efficiency as well. Hybrid technology is still just beginning out although it is a great technology. It will be interesting to see what happens with the traditional combustion technology as it will still continue to thrive.

AOL may soon make a Yahoo acquisition offer

Yahoo Inc., is a business with a huge number of possible suitors. AOL has begun talking with financiers. They might target Yahoo as a company to purchase out. AOL is just one of the numerous entities thinking about a purchase offer for Yahoo — private-equity firms are also in discussions.

Yahoo and AOL together?

America Online had been how AOL started as an Internet and media business. Yahoo Inc., is also an Internet and media company. You will find only a couple things Yahoo really makes cash on. Search and advertising are those things. AOL and Yahoo have discussed merging once before, in 2008. The businesses would compete mostly in search and advertising, where the two separate companies are not doing well against search behemoth Google. The visitor interaction and time on site have gone down despite the fact that lots of visitors nevertheless go to each site.

Deal might have Yahoo bought out by AOL

Getting out Yahoo would be AOL. This can occur in different ways. There’s a relationship between Yahoo and Goldman Sachs. This has been there for a long time. In 2008, Microsoft tried to buyout Yahoo, however eventually withdrew their bid. Private equity firms have been contacted by AOL most recently. This has been to discuss the Yahoo purchase being funded. The Blackstone group is in consideration for funding the AOL-Yahoo partnership. Silver Lake Partners is being considered also. The control of the connection would be maintained by the partners more than likely.

The style of AOL Yahoo

AOL and Yahoo have both been in the business a while. Mergers and spin-offs are things they know about. After merging, AOL spun off of Time Warner Cable in 2009. Microsoft's Bing search motor had some help. Yahoo helped with it. As talks are in their early stages, there are no information on how the merged business would operate. The search world is going to start having fewer engines to work with. AOL, Yahoo and Bing will all partner to go against Google.

A new Barracuda could possibly be getting designed

The Barracuda could be the next muscle automobile to return. Retro style on domestic made performance vehicles has been a big thing. The comeback of classics entices individuals. One of the most anticipated to come back has been the Barracuda. The Barracuda was a Plymouth, which really doesn’t exist anymore. Post resource – Rumors spreading of a possible new Barracuda by Car Deal Expert.

A possible return of the Barracuda

Recently, the design head of the Chrysler organization and head of Dodge, Roger Gilles, went to the SEMA, or Specialty Equipment Market Association, trade show, as outlined by USA Today. The event is for those invited only. Only those within the auto industry are welcome. He mentioned Barracuda while he had been being asked about new projects. For a long time, people kept asking him about it. Bringing it back is something he seems serious about. It is still a rumor though. It would not be a bad thing though if the Barracuda were to return. Other cars have gotten retro updates, like the Ford Mustang and also the Chevy Camaro. There was also a return of the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. These both did well. The hitch is that the Barracuda had been made by Plymouth, which doesn’t exist anymore.

Remembering the MOPAR muscle

The Plymouth Barracuda had been an incredibly popular car among muscle cars. Plymouth made cars that had serious performance for a severe bargain. It cost about $2,500 for the first generation sold from 1964 to 1966. You had the choice of getting a 6-cylinder or 273-cubic inch V8. In 1967, the car was changed a ton. It ended up with a 426-inch Hemi V8. The Hemi 426 and 440 are both remembered for how powerful they’re when one of probably the most valuable cars within the world right now are the rare HemiCuda convertibles. Production had been stopped in 1974.

The end of Plymouth

The Plymouth brand has been over for a when. Since 2001 it has been gone. Bringing back the Barracuda would put it under the Dodge or Chrysler name. This would be the only option.

Hopes of legalization go up in smoke as Prop 19 breaks down

Numerous people wondered "Did Prop 19 Pass?" as the polls closed No, it did not pass. It had been not a victory for Proposition 19 or Proposition 19 in California. The vote divided 54 to 46, so a recount will do no good. The majority of CA districts voted it down. California would be the first state to have legalized cannabis if it passed.

Prop 19 defeated

Many wanted to know what was going to take place with Proposition 19 as California is a state that sets the national standards. Legalizing marijuana was the purpose of Prop 19. It ended up not passing though. It only passed in one place within the state, and just barely. This had been in San Francisco. San Franciscans approved the measure, according to the Los Angeles Times, 51 percent to 49 percent in exit polls. Though the final voting results probably will not be available for a while, there is each and every indication that California’s Proposition 19 was defeated 54 percent to 46 percent according to CNN.

Younger generation wanting to pass estimate

Most supporters of Prop 19 were younger people, mostly 29 years or younger, in exit polls. 64 percent of voters between 18 and 24 were for the measure when 36 were against it. Voters 25 to 29 years of age were less enthusiastic, as only 52 percent for and 48 percent against. Over 67 percent of those older than 65, were against the proposition. Over 70 percent of repub-licans in CA were against the measure passing too. The independents voted 54 percent for and 46 against when democrats were 45 percent against and 55 percent for. 31 percent of those with less than a high school degree wanted it to pass when 61 percent were against it.

It’s still prohibited

California currently has one of the most permissive weed laws nationally, and it is a haven for medical cannabis us-ers. George Soros had been in favor of Proposition 19. This is why he made a last minute donation, which obviously didn't help. Full legalization will not be an option again until 2012. Those in CA will just have to wait.

Omega-3 fish-oil isn't able to slow Alzheimer's, research states

Hopes that fish oil might be a weapon in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease were dashed Tuesday. The study, which sought to demonstrate how omega-3 fatty acids could impede the progress of dementia, could not. Omega-3 fish oil has been touted as a treatment for Alzheimer's because people with a diet rich in fish demonstrate a lesser tendency to suffer from dementia. Source for this article – Omega-3 fish oil fails to slow Alzheimer’s, study says by Personal Money Store.

Insufficient results from Omega-3 products

Omega-3 fish oil was no more effective than a placebo in results of a study published within the Journal of the American Medical Association. The double-blind study randomly assigned subjects with mild to reasonable Alzheimer’s disease to take a daily dose of either an omega-3 fatty acid supplement or a placebo. Those in the experiment were monitored. For 18 months, this happened. At the end of the study period scientists assessed the subjects’ cognitive ability and conducted MRI scans of their brains. Nobody improved brain volume. Also, cognitive ability was the very same for all.

Still looking into connection with Alzheimer's and fish-oil

Omega-3 fatty acids were something that was looked into for a vitamin good for brain health. This was because Alzheimer's disease was less common in cultures that have a diet with a lot of fish in it. Though the omega-3 study disproves that notion, it didn’t set out to prove whether fish-oil may benefit brain health at a younger age. Dementia is already in the brain years and years before there are any symptoms showing it. Taking Omega-3 many years before getting Alzheimer's could prevent the disease. It may just impede the dementia too.

Don't get too excited specialists

Alzheimer’s therapies aren't proven to work at all. This is what a group of specialists on cognitive development and decline on the National Institutes of Health said. Programs like memory training, not eating saturated fats, eating more fruits and vegetables and rigorous exercise have no scientific facts behind them. These programs do not have any evidence, which means they might nevertheless work. The omega-3 fish oil theory had been proved wrong though with Alzheimer's disease meaning it’s entirely ineffective.

Prop 19 signifies big arguments about marijuana

California’s Prop 19 has just a little bit of anything that has made the 2010 election season interesting. There is a big debate over the prop and its effects. Specifically, the “Regulate, Control, and Tax Weed Act. Here is an overview of the arguments about California’s Prop 19.

Prop 19 information

Prop 19 would, in short, make recreational cannabis use lawful in California. Those 21 or older would be able to “possess, cultivate or transport weed for personal use," if the initiative passed. Any local govt would be given the right to regulate and tax any part of the cannabis industry. Anyone younger than 21 being within the room while it’s smoked would be illegal. It would also be illegal to drive under the influence or smoke in public.

Taxing the stuff with Proposition 19

One major argument for Prop 19 is the potential tax revenue for California. Not only would Prop 19 remove the more than $1 billion cost of enforcing anti-marijuana laws, it would create about $1.3 billion in tax revenue. The state could be able to keep playing those it employs with that kind of cash, as right now employees for the stat are making essentially minimum wage.

State rights surround Prop 19

Legalizing cannabis is not the concern even for many groups. They think it could be one step closer to more rights within the states individually. Conservative groups say that the United States federal government has no place regulating intoxicants. There are Tea Party groups declaring that state and individual rights are the concern. That is what Proposition 19 is about.

Stating no to Prop 19

California's Prop 19 has an odd group against it. It’s a bit abnormal. Some producers and sellers of medical marijuana have spoken out in opposition to passing Proposition 19 in CA. Weed being legal for recreation will mean the sector changes. The medical sector will have to change too. They might end up with higher taxes although it's a medical product and the prices of it dropping.

This two-part series on the initiative is all about California's Prop 19 that you can read. Proposition 19 ends up leaving CA residents with a choice. It is a hard one too. How do you plan to vote?

Law school investment may not pay back for many law graduates

The payoff for investing in a legal education is questionable. Law school tuition continues to rise and fewer jobs with good pay are available. Regardless, more people than ever enrolled in law school seeking shelter from the recession and now thousands of indebted new attorneys are fighting over a limited number of positions. Article source – Law school investment may not pay down for many law graduates by Personal Money Store.

Law school financial debt cannot be paid with the salary of an attorney

Between 2007 and 2009, 20 percent more people started taking the LSAT. But this year a growing number of law students and law school graduates are unemployed, underemployed and deeply in student loan debt. According to Annie Lowery at Slate, in 2008 there was lots of debt taken out. Thos graduating then had an average of $71,436 in debt when coming from a public law school. Private law graduates had even higher amounts of debt. It was about $91,506 for them. Law school is only a good investment if the starting salary is pretty high. It would have to be $65,000 or more. Most jobs available to law school graduate students pay from $45,000 to $60,000.

Fraction of lawyers see a good Return on investment

Vanderbilt law professor Herwig Schlunk published a study in 2009 about investing in law school titled “Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be … Lawyers.” Whether or not law school is a worthwhile investment is what Schlunk is really concerned about in this study. He factors in high student loan debt also as the opportunity cost of lost income when going to school. Schlunk makes a point of saying you will find only a couple of "hot prospects" that will do well after law school. It is only worth it for them to do law school.

Take my law degree back … please!

Schlunk's lesson had been learned in a terrible way by a law student at the Boston College law school. AFP reports than an unnamed student wrote an open letter to the dean of BC Law, where tuition exceeds $40,000 a year. When graduating in 2011, the student did not think finding a job would be possible while in debt and preparing to be a father. He said he'd quit BC Law school so they'd give him a refund on tuition. He said it had been a win-win situation they were looking at. He could return to teaching and be able to provide for his family without being weighed down by crushing debt. The US News and World Report, which publishes United States of America law school rankings, would not have to have reported to them his future unemployment for BC Law. This was not something BC Law had been willing to do. The offer had been denied.

Loan companies of small loans can't afford to purchase elections

Like any group or business, small loans companies and payday advance loan companies can make campaign contributions. Some believe that any business or trade organization that donates to a candidate is bribing them. Some think that if an office holder or candidate wants to ban payday advances, they have to have been bribed. It is an awful double standard, and loan providers do not posses that sort of cash lying around to start with.

Purchasing officials something the small loan industry gets accused of

Cash advance and installment loan lenders, along with other small loan companies, are allowed to lobby politicians in order for making sure they get some say, along with all other trade organizations. Making campaign contributions is legally something these organizations are allowed to do. Organizations will lobby incumbents or candidates, which sometimes these small loan businesses do also where officials are invited. There seems to be a double standard though. For instance, in a recent New Mexico gubernatorial debate, based on the brand new Mexico Independent, Democratic candidate Diane Denish practically accused Susana Martinez of being bribed by payday advance lenders because a fundraiser for Martinez had been partially run by a lobbyist employed by the choice financial services business.

Who is in charge of rules now?

A sector making contributions to a candidate doesn't mean too much. Who gets to say that one organization is better than another when it comes to donating? Getting off anyone is something that is hard to actually do for cash advance and small loan lenders with no cash. For instance, Congressional Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina received $57,900 from payday lending organizations for his 2010 election fund, and that’s the industry as a whole. Senator Chris Dodd, by comparison received $152,100 from the Royal Financial institution of Scotland alone in 2010. Do you would like to view what your representatives are receiving? Go to OpenSecrets.org, and you might be surprised.

Payday lending is small

The contributions small loan companies can make as a sector are dwarfed when it comes to other lobbies, such as banks and high finance. Election campaigns end up with unions paying out probably the most. That's where much of the contributions come from. Looking at history, unions are hardly squeaky clean by any stretch of the imagination. A bribe isn’t what a contribution is. Payday cash advance loan Facts and Statistics Report on Personal Money Store are there for you to read.

A whirlwind tour of the history of Halloween

The history of Halloween stretches far beyond the advent of trick or treating to Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival in medieval Ireland. About 1,500 years ago, the Pope put in his two cents worth with all of Saints Day, a Catholic holiday meant to undermine the Celt’s Pagan practices. Trick or treat owes a great deal of its substance to the Pagans and the Pope, not to mention the marketing campaigns of U.S. candy manufacturers.

Holidays the way the Pagans did it

The history of Halloween begins with the Celts. Farmers would honor the sun with the festival, Samhain, at the end of summer in order for the sun to come back in the spring. The farmers were the Celts. They thought that the living and dead worlds were getting closer when the days got shorter and plants went dormant. Samhain had been held Oct. 31. The Celts built bonfires in memory of the dead, wore costumes and left food and drink outside overnight for ghosts. The children were in charge of luring the spirits. They did this by finding a hollowed out vegetable, they cut scary faces, and then candles would be put in them. Smashing bottles and vegetables at the neighbors is what the kids would also do.

The Pope talks about All Hallows Even

November 1 had been announced as All Saints Day by Pope Gregory III which is where the more modern Halloween comes from. The Celtic Pagans were happy to go along, however they refused to give up Samhain and their celebration of the dead. Celts were allowed to party still as long as it was in honor of saints, said the Pope. Going “a-souling” was what many started doing, which had been where people went door to door asking for food and drink in exchange for a pray for dead relatives. All Saints Day became known as All Hallows. Hallowe’en originated from All Hallows’ Even. This was the very same night as Samhain, or the night before.

Trick or treat added to it

Hallowe’en came to The United States with the influx of Irish immigrants within the 19th century. The whole U.S. didn’t start trick or treating until the late 1940s. This had been because Halloween trick or treating had been simply extortion in the 1920s and ’30s. Halloween became an opportunity for candy companies within the 1950s that they just couldn’t pass up. The National Confectioners Association explains that candy sales for Halloween are ridiculous. In fact, this year, over $2 billion could be sold for Halloween. The average American family will spend $20.29 on Halloween candy.

Tea Party Senate candidates unelectable as marketed

The GOP benefited from Tea Party activism in the 2010 elections, but the party also paid a price. Tea Party frustration had been spanned by the Republican organization into an endorsement for the minority party . Nevertheless, a trio of politically inept Tea Party candidates spoiled the GOP’s chance to seize the Senate.

GOP gets a Tea Party Gift

In 2008, there wasn't much going on when it came to the Republican base. The base got much bigger though for this election because the Tea Party had been kicked into gear. There was a lot of anger associated with it. This made more people anti-democratic. There wasn't that much of a complete republican triumph though thinking about numerous were more willing to vote in those with questionable character than those who were actually good individuals.

Tea Party pros and cons

The Tea Party helped Republicans gain 60 Congressional seats, the biggest swing by a major party in the House since 1948. 46 seats in the Senate were kept by republicans following the election. An undecided vote was expected to go Democratic. That's what had been expected to take place in Washington. Republicans might end up with 47 seats as long as write-in Lisa Murkowski doesn't beat out Tea Party candidate Joe Miller, who had bodyguards handcuff a journalist once. The Tea Party hurt the GOP a bit though. 50 seats would have gone to them otherwise.

Maintaining Tea Party candidates from being chosen

There were Tea Party candidates within the senate races. That was the plan all along. What occurred was expected thinking about the Republicans said that the individuals were unelectable. The democratic incumbent in CO beat the Tea Party candidate. This means Ken Buck was not as successful as Michael Bennet. Last summer Buck said, "because I do not wear high heels" as the reason people should vote for him. In Nevada, embattled Democrat Harry Reid very easily defeated Tea Party candidate Sharon Angle. Angle is noted for saying she was anointed by God to run for the Senate, among numerous other outrageous remarks. Christine O'Donnell was within the Senate race in Delaware. Palin had been involved in making her lose it to Chris Coons though.
