Project Runway Season 8 was a season of big surprises. The biggest surprise came in the Project Runway finale results. The winner of this year’s Project Runway was a hotly discussed subject — and will probably continue to be.
The eighth season of ‘Project Runway’
Season 8 of “Project Runway” is the third season that the show was on Lifetime Network. Seventeen contestants started out the season, and over 14 episodes they were narrowed down to just one winner. The hour-and-a-half episodes swapped out “Models of the Runway” and utilized the extra half hour mostly for product placement.
’Project Runway’ ends with a final episode
There had been a season recap at the beginning of the "Project Runway" finale this year. The "Project Runway" finale didn't actually happen until after a long discussion of the season 8 "Project Runway" contestants talking about their experience that season. Usually, the "Project Runway" finale is filled with drama. This year, it wasn't and ran really well. Andy was almost right away discounted by the judges for his green-and-silver collection. The judges had a hard time deciding between Gretchen and Mondo though. They were both fabulous. Gretchen's 1970s casual line "had her finger on the pulse of fashion" as outlined by Nina and Michael. Guest judge Jessica Simpson and the show’s host Heidi Klum, however, thought that Mondo deserved to win for his creativity and style. When the judges are choosing, a two against one vote will always win. This meant Gretchen won the competition.
What is the ‘Project Runway’ direction
Since the season 6 move to Lifetime, “Project Runway” finale shows seem to have gotten a growing number of predictable. When the show was on Bravo TV, it appeared that the judges were making decisions based on the actual clothes in front of them. The clothes didn't seem to matter as much in season 8 of "Project Runway." This was just like Season 6 and Season 7 were. During season 8, clothing that should have gotten designers eliminated did not because they were “good for TV” personalities. There's also too much product placement now. This was shown with the additional half hour dedicated practically entirely to that. Season 8 of "Project Runway" showed one thing to everybody watching. It isn't about the clothes anymore. If Gretchen’s winning “rewind” designs are where fashion is going, we have yet to see it within the actual fashion on the street.
