Salmonella implicated in egg recall

For the second time this year, an egg recall has become requested. An Ohio egg farm is implicated in this recall. Cal-Maine foods is the distributor for these eggs. Ohio Fresh Eggs supplies these eggs to the distributor. The two farms implicated within the egg recall earlier this year share something in frequent with Ohio Fresh Egg. Recalling 288,000 eggs in egg recall

Eight states within the United States of America could be impacted by the Cal-Maine foods egg recall, which is the largest egg distributer in the states. The states consist of Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, California, Iowa, Missouri and Texas. Springfield, Sun Valley, James Farm and Sunny Meadow are all affected brands of eggs. Egg recall connected to “habitual violator”

There have been difficulties within the past for this farm. This is the farm that gives Cal-Maine its eggs. In Dec of 2006, Ohio Fresh Eggs was shut down as the operators did not reveal that Austin “Jack” DeCoster had invested $126 million within the farm. 1,600 people got sick in the egg recall earlier this year from Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg which both had DeCoster involved.

Recalling eggs due to salmonella

Most eggs do not have salmonella bacteria in them. About 1 in each and every 20,000 chicken eggs contains a very small amount of salmonella — about five microorganisms per egg. An egg with 100 microorganisms will make somebody sick. That is the expected amount. Avoiding salmonella is not hard. It’s actually easy to do. Any bacteria can be cooked if the egg is cooked to a temperature of 160 degrees. Salmonella is more likely to occur in overcrowded henhouses that are dirty which makes buying eggs from somebody you know that treats their hens well is helpful too.
