Numerous people wondered "Did Prop 19 Pass?" as the polls closed No, it did not pass. It had been not a victory for Proposition 19 or Proposition 19 in California. The vote divided 54 to 46, so a recount will do no good. The majority of CA districts voted it down. California would be the first state to have legalized cannabis if it passed.
Prop 19 defeated
Many wanted to know what was going to take place with Proposition 19 as California is a state that sets the national standards. Legalizing marijuana was the purpose of Prop 19. It ended up not passing though. It only passed in one place within the state, and just barely. This had been in San Francisco. San Franciscans approved the measure, according to the Los Angeles Times, 51 percent to 49 percent in exit polls. Though the final voting results probably will not be available for a while, there is each and every indication that California’s Proposition 19 was defeated 54 percent to 46 percent according to CNN.
Younger generation wanting to pass estimate
Most supporters of Prop 19 were younger people, mostly 29 years or younger, in exit polls. 64 percent of voters between 18 and 24 were for the measure when 36 were against it. Voters 25 to 29 years of age were less enthusiastic, as only 52 percent for and 48 percent against. Over 67 percent of those older than 65, were against the proposition. Over 70 percent of repub-licans in CA were against the measure passing too. The independents voted 54 percent for and 46 against when democrats were 45 percent against and 55 percent for. 31 percent of those with less than a high school degree wanted it to pass when 61 percent were against it.
It’s still prohibited
California currently has one of the most permissive weed laws nationally, and it is a haven for medical cannabis us-ers. George Soros had been in favor of Proposition 19. This is why he made a last minute donation, which obviously didn't help. Full legalization will not be an option again until 2012. Those in CA will just have to wait.
