Are you sprinting the NYC Marathon?

Attention all runners: The NYC Marathon is only 213 days away!If you haven’t started training for the NYC Marathon, you should start soon. The NYC Lottery today chose which of the 38,000 runners get to compete. If your name didn’t get pulled by the NYC Marathon lottery, you can still run to get instant money for charity.

NYC Marathon in History

The New York City Marathon began with a group of 40 runners getting together to start the New York Road Runners in 1958. The New York City Marathon runs through all five city boroughs. The tough course, doubled with the support of the New York Road Runners, also makes it one of the best marathons in the United States. The NYC marathon is has added ING as a title sponsor, though the New York Road Runners still operate the race

The Lottery for the NYC Marathon

The organizers of the NYC Marathon always get more applications to run in the marathon than the route can hold. In order to manage this, the NYRR and ING (the NYC Marathon title sponsor) hold a “runner’s lottery”. Find out whether you are in to the NYC Marathon on the NYRR Marathon web site. If you want to run but didn’t get in, you can still run for quick cash for charity. You can run in the 2011 NYC Marathon if you choose not to use your 2010 NYC Marathon entry.

Training for the NYC Marathon

If you are planning on sprinting the NYC Marathon, or any other marathon, training is probably the most important thing. Even very trained athletes consider marathons a challenge. You will need to pay attention to nutrition, hydration, practice, and physical conditioning. The NYRR offer anything from 10k training races all the way up to 15 week intensive training practices.Starting your summer with a running program, NYC marathon or not, could be an excellent way to start your summer.
