In Stamford Connecticut last year, Charla Nash went to the home of her friend Sandra Herold to help her with her pet chimp Travis. Travis nearly killed Charla Nash, and she was disfigured by the attack. Police responded, and also the responding officer fatally shot the errant chimp. Charla was taken to the Cleveland Clinic, where she underwent extensive surgeries and therapy, and she has been released. A chimpanzee is not necessarily the kind of pet you would like to put some borrow money into getting.
”Today” Show given update by Charla Nash
Charla Nash recently had an interview with the “Today” show, in which she updated Meredith Vieira about her situation, as outlined by MSNBC. Her face was completely disfigured in the attack, and she wears a veil wherever she goes. Both of her eyes had to be removed. Her hands were utterly ruined, and she can’t eat solid food. However, after a year of therapy and numerous surgeries, she is being released by the Cleveland Clinic. She hopes to get hand and face transplants.
Responding officer traumatized
The responding officer was also subject to an MSNBC report. Officer Frank Chiafari, a 25-year veteran of the Stamford police force, has suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from the incident. He could barely tell what was being attacked by the chimp arriving on the scene. Travis really went up to his vehicle, and opened the driver side door. Chiafari opened fire. Travis was shot several times, and died from his wounds. Chiafari was so affected by the event that he took a leave of absence, only to have the state deny his worker's compensation claim.
What will Charla Nash do now?
Charla Nash was taken to the Cleveland Clinic for a reason. You will find hardly any hospitals better than the Cleveland Clinic. That’s where the first face transplant within the U.S. was done. It’s also where kidney dialysis was invented, and a slew of other medical breakthroughs were made. She could be able to make further leaps and bounds afterwards.
