It is Right Around Earth Day 2010

Earth-1

April 22 can be Earth Day 2010. Earth Day 2010, and any Earth Day really, is a good time to be mindful of being better custodians of the environment. After all, our children take over just what we leave behind, and I certainly do not want my legacy to be litter. There are also some great Earth Day Activities for Kids, if you need to include the little ones. There are numerous Earth Day deeds that won’t send you running for debt relief.

Earth Day began April 22, 1970

The very first Earth Day was a teach-in. Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson announced the idea at several rallies in fall of 1969. With the help of media coverage and organizers, a grassroots effort for environmental advocacy took off. Colleges and universities held teach ins, and rallies and demonstrations all took place on April 22, 1970. Over 20 million people participated, and Earth Day and Earth Week were born. It expanded from there, and now Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 in numerous countries worldwide.

v?|Just what can I do}?}

There are plenty of activities that will properly commemorate Earth Day 2010. You can start a compost pile with grass clippings and old leaves. Plant a tree; not only do they spruce up a yard, they can add to property value. (The Arbor Day Foundation has more info on that.) Try some recycling. Your area may even reward recycling with cash till payday for certain materials.One couple made national headlines for their project Wedding Cans, paying for their wedding by recycling cans.

The EPA expands on Earth Day

The website for the Environmental Protection Agency has some activities in mind. They have a section called Pick 5 for the Environment, and conservation tips for air, power, water, waste, and activism. There are some good ideas on the EPA website.
